This little known area is home to astonishing sights. Its Pineau and Cognac wines  are of international fame. Our multi-faceted ride will start east of Angoulême, with a scenery which reminds that of Limousin and Périgord. Large forests as well as small farms in a rolling landscape . Then, coming back north-west we’ll ride across the famous Cognac and Pineau vineyards. We’ll have the opportunity to visit the Grobos Abbey. We’ll go across the Argentine flatland with its old quarries, the medieval castle of Villebois la Vallette, the monolithic church of Aubeterre, the largest in Europe), the Maine Giraud vineyards. We’ll ride along the Charente river to end up in Cognac to visit distilleries and proceed with Cognac tasting.
Day 1 :
We welcome you at the SNCF railway station in Angoulême in the afternoon. Transfer to Marthon, night in hotel “les Glycines”.

Day 2 :
Departure around 10 o’clock. Here is rough terrain with deep wooded valleys. On the way we’ll visit the orthodox church of Korssoum. We’ll then ride to the Grobos Abbey, have  picnic and visit the abbey.In the afternoon we’ll go through the national forest of la Rochebeaucourt. Then the Argentine flatland at the end of the afternoon.Visit of the site. Night at a bed and breakfast.

Day 3 :  
We’ll leave the Argentine flatland to reach Villebois la Valette. Visit of the 13th centry castle and picnic. Afternoon with farmlands and woodlands on rolling hills, to reach our night stop at a bed and breakfast in Salles la Valette.

Day 4 :
We’ll get to the villge of Aubeterre sur Dronne. Visit of the 12th century monolithic church, followed by picnic. A long afternoon ride to reach the town of Chalais. Night  and dinner in town at a bed and breakfast.
Day 5 :
We’ll head north to Nonac. Fields and woods follow each other in a slightly rolling landscape . We’ll ride by the Duc d’Epernon castle; picnic along the way. In the afternoon we’ll reach Blanzac through similar scenery. We’ll visit the templar church of Gressac Saint Genis. Night at a bed and breakfast.

Day 6 :
We head north again and discover beautiful small valleys and a lot of forests.In the morning we’ll visit Maine Giraud, where Alfred de Vigny, a famous 18th century poet and writer  retired at the end of his life (visit of the premises and Cognac tasting). Picnic close to an ancient grinding-stone manufacture. Afternoon in more open land, beginning of the Charente vineyards. We’ll end our ride along the Charente river as far as Nersac. The Charente river is navigable on 100 km; its waters are clear, the fish teeming, the banks beautiful; small churches, villages, farmhouses nestled in a diverse environment. Night at a bed and breakfast.

Day 7 :
We’ll head west, north of Chateauneuf and Saint Même les Carrières, across large vineyards to Jarnac; we’ll have picnic at the château de Triac, the makers of the Braastad Cognac. In the afternoon we’ll ride along the right bank of the Charente river to Cognac. Night in Cognac.

Day 8 :
End of the ride. Transfer to the SNCF railway station of Cognac after breakfast.
